The spray tanning solution is applied by a fully trained and experienced airbrush technician using the best airbrush tanning system on the market. Airbrush tanning solutions contain an active ingredient known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which is an ingredient derived from sugar, which reacts with the amino acids in the skin to create the darkening reaction or tan! It works with the amino acids in the top layer of your skin to produce a natural looking tan. The generation of color is reached within 4 to 6 hours, so the color will continue to darken after the initial application. DHA is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in externally applied cosmetics intended to add color to the skin. DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years to date. Airbrush tanning solutions also typically have a normal bronzer that provides an immediate tan effect and helps the technician to distinguish areas of the skin that are applied and unapplied.
As the dead skin cells are naturally sloughed off and the color of the tan gradually fades.
How Long Will My Airbrush Tan Last?
Your tan can last between 7 to 10 days or more with proper care. Tanning extenders and hydrating your skin are a great way to prolong your tan longer. When your tan fades, usually the face and hands are the first to fade then the rest of your body. With our exclusive premium solution your tan will fade evenly, not blotchy but it is also up to you on how you maintain your tan.
Preparation & After Care Instructions
We are committed to giving you the best tanning experience you have ever had, however there are steps that you should take to ensure the best results of your tan. Proper preparation and after care will make your airbrushed spray tan last longer.
Before your tan:
For the best results, it is best to shower, shave any unwanted hair, and thoroughly exfoliate your skin the night before (if you have a tanning session in the morning) or in the morning (if you have a tanning session in the evening) your appointment. If going out hours before your tanning session or going to bed, you may wear deodorant, lotion, makeup and perfume but make sure to thoroughly wash it off before your tanning session. Exfoliating, or shaving right before your appointment will affect the tanning application. Not rinsing off thoroughly will affect the outcome of your tan. When soap, lotion, or perfume residue is left on the skin, it creates that area not being able to tan; therefore it looks like a white spot. Exfoliate with a non-oil based product. Exfoliating as much as possible will remove dead skin which usually flakes off and will promote an even lasting tan. When exfoliating, pay special attention to your knees, legs, ankles, elbows, and knuckles. Don’t exfoliate harshly because that can affect your tan.
Schedule waxing 2 days prior to your airbrush tan and manicures/pedicures, hair appointments, and massage appointments before your tanning appointment.
Be free of any lotion, deodorant, or make-up at your tanning session. These are barriers to the solution and can cause white spots, and minimal tanning color. Spraying tanning over deodorant can result in green rings around armpits and is difficult to remove.
If you choose to wear underwear during the session, choose a dark color, same with a bathing suit, however the solution will NOT permanently stain clothing! A dark terry cloth wrap is recommended if you are not comfortable wearing a swim suit.
Wait 8-12 hours after the application before showering. This allows the tanning process to fully develop and set in. It is safe to apply makeup (powder foundation, mascara) or deodorant while your tan is still developing.
If you are pregnant consult with your physician prior to tanning with any solution containing DHA.
After Your Tan:
After your sunless tan is done, your technician will review the proper aftercare and ways to extend your tan so it will last as long as possible.
Avoid touching your tan and any activities that may cause you to perspire or sweat.
Avoid hot baths. Hot baths will fade your tan fast.
Swimming in the ocean will not fade your tan much. Swimming in a chlorinated pool or Jacuzzi will fade your tan fast and can make it blotchy.
Do not shower for at least 8 hours after your tanning session. Ideally, the DHA application needs about 12 hours to reach its peak. After your shower, pat yourself dry with a towel, do not rub. Rubbing yourself dry with a towel can cause your tan to streak.
Minimize on shaving but when you do shave, use hair conditioner and a sharp razor.
It is important to keep your skin hydrated for a lasting tan! If you keep your skin hydrated and moisturized, your skin won’t slough off as fast and your spray tan will last longer. Tanning extenders are a great way of keeping a long lasting tan. We sell our own tanning extender which is long lasting, extremely hydrating and has a ton of botanicals and antioxidants which is beneficial for your skin.
MOISTURE! MOISTURE! MOISTURE! Apply lotion twice a day after your first shower for this will ensure a long lasting tan. If you have super dry skin then up your moisturizing to 3 times a day and drink lots of water. Avoid lotions with mineral oils. Mineral oils will strip your tan and cause you to be blotchy. If anything, read the back of the ingredients on the bottle. Aveeno, Suave Advanced Therapy, Jergens Original, Cetaphil, Vaseline Aloe Vera Fresh are good lotions to use that have no mineral oils.

Potential fading and/or lightening of your tan may be caused by:
– Anti-aging, smoothing, or skin renewal products can increase fading and can cause blotchiness.
– Alpha Hydroxy Acids can speed up skin exfoliation.
– Beta Hydroxy Acids can increase fast fading.
– Products containing Retin-A can increase fast fading and can cause blotchiness.
– Toners containing alcohol can cause fading.
– Acne products can cause faster fading, peeling, and blotchiness. (Pro Active)
– Antibiotics and chemotherapy drugs can affect a tan. (Your skin won’t take to the solution as much)
– Avoid bar soaps and deodorant soaps for they are harsh on the skin and can affect your tan
– Lotions with Mineral Oils should be avoided for these can cause rapid, poor and uneven fading.
– Hair removal procedures (laser & Waxing) will lighten tanned skin. Waxing can remove your tan.
– Shaving exfoliates the skin and can cause streaks; use a sharp razor and shaving cream or hair conditioner when shaving.
– Taking hot baths, long hot baths, swimming pools (chlorine), fresh or salt water can lighten a tan. Waterproof sun block will help slow down the fading process.
– Hormonal Changes can affect your tan.
– Oily areas on your body (face, chest, neck, & upper back) tan lighter than surrounding skin.
– Perfumes, when sprayed directly onto the skin, will remove or fade a tan. Instead spray into air and walk through the mist.
– Excessive sweating and rubbing can cause tan to fade faster.
